Thiago returns to training 61 days after Richarlison's horror challenge

Thiago Alcantara returned to training last night at Liverpool's new Kirkby facility as he looks to ramp up his rehab after Richarlison's shocking tackle back in October, the club reports.

Liverpool beat Spurs 2-1 on Wednesday evening to claim the top spot in the Premier League for their own.

Two of the most important players on the evening were Georginio Wijnaldum and Scouser Curtis Jones but on the same note, having someone of Thiago's ilk back in training will only improve this side's title credentials this season.

As per the club's official website, "Thiago was in the rehab gym and out on the grass at the Kirkby facility today as he works his way back towards full fitness."

The Spaniard spent 61 days out after Richarlison's dangerous tackle saw the former Bayern star thanking his lucky stars that he didn't have his leg snapped in two. In the same game, Virgil van Dijk was scythed down by Jordan Pickford and will be lucky to play another game this season.

With 28 points, the Reds are three points clear at the top of the Premier League and will be hoping to have Thiago fully fit and raring to go in the New Year which will give the 28-year-old just under two weeks to get his rhythm back.

While Liverpool haven't struggled for midfield options with Thiago out and are in need of centre backs more than anything, Jürgen Klopp will be delighted to have his £25m man back in training.

The 1-1 draw with Fulham at Craven Cottage is a perfect example of the type of game where Thiago's precise passing would make a major difference.

Both Covid-19 and injury have limited Thiago to just two appearances but there are still so many games to come in which he can help his side on their quest to add more silverware to the Kirkby trophy display.
