"Initial prognosis wasn’t positive": Liverpool concerned about potential result of scan on £225,000/week star

Liverpool are worried about the injury Thiago sustained against Fulham and James Pearce reports that he's facing a lengthy layoff.

The Spaniard simply cannot catch a break after his first two seasons with the club were hampered by injuries.

His 2022/23 campaign got off to the worst possible start as he was forced off the pitch with a hamstring issue.

Since joining Liverpool, Thiago has played 24 Premier League games in the 2020/21 season and 25 last campaign.

However, it's not a new issue - the below graphic from the Athletic highlights how his availability has been an issue his entire career.

James Pearce reports: "A scan will determine the full extent of the damage but the initial prognosis wasn’t positive.

"He’s facing another lay-off."

The £225,000/week star is a key player for Liverpool - his control and swagger in central areas allow Klopp's side to dominate teams in a way that their other midfielders cannot.

If the Reds do sign a midfielder this month, I think it's key that they sign someone who can at least partially replicate Thiago's ability to dictate play and run the game from deep.

Jude Bellingham is obviously a serious target for Liverpool but unless there is a huge change of heart from Borussia Dortmund, he will remain in the Bundesliga for at least another season.

The next three weeks will be very interesting and could have a defining impact on how much success Liverpool will enjoy this season.

It's possible for us to win the Premier League this season but the cracks have been appearing over the last few weeks with injuries to Curtis Jones and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

As much as they are not starters, their injuries laid bare the strength of Liverpool's depth in midfield and Thiago's hamstring injury is a major warning to Klopp and the owners as the transfer window winds down.

Fortunately, there are still three weeks of the transfer window remaining so there is time left to make a signing but it doesn't seem as though Klopp is happy with the options available this month.
