Steven Gerrard tipped to sign Roberto Firmino in January

Tony Cascarino has tipped Steven Gerrard to try and sign Roberto Firmino from his former club.

The Brazilian has battled with injury this season but he's going to play an important role for Liverpool when Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane leave for AFCON after the Chelsea game.

So, the talkSPORT pundit suggesting Aston Villa might try and sign the £180,000/week forward with magic in his feet isn't just an 'out-there' take but it makes zero sense.

It doesn't make any sense for Villa either as Firmino is 30 and although he is out of contract in 18 months, Liverpool will still look for a decent fee to let him leave.

Tony Cascarino has a gut feeling Aston Villa will go for Bobby Firmino

“It’s only my gut feeling. I think they’ll go for one big Liverpool player. I’ve got a feeling, I wouldn’t be surprised if Firmino went to Villa,” Cascarino said.

“And I say that because there’s always puzzles to managers and their former clubs.

"They love going back to people they work with. Danny Ings hasn’t worked out at Villa. I think Ollie Watkins needs a type of Firmino player to get the best out of him.

"They’re (Villa) going big. Now, people might say Klopp will never let him go. But he’s been a sub way too often. Jota has took his place at Liverpool.”

Should Liverpool renew Firmino's contract or is it time to part ways?

Out of the famed front three of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Firmino, the latter has been at the club the longest.

Yet, with Diogo Jota making the central role up front his own, the writing is on the wall for Bobby and it's sad to think a player that has been at the club for 7 years and has won the Champions League and Premier League in that time could soon leave.

His numbers haven't been excellent for a while but he still holds a special place in most Liverpool fans' hearts.

From the flicks and tricks to the crazy celebrations, he's been an incredible player to watch.
