Spurs want to open talks in 'next few days' for £70M star: Reds could miss out on 'perfect Klopp player'

Liverpool have been linked with a midfield signing this summer but could be about to lose out on a dream £70M signing.

Having signed attacking talents such as Darwin Nunez and Fabio Carvalho, the Reds haven't made any additions in midfield.

This is despite an injury to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain which could prove to be a lengthy absence.

Latest reports from Italy reveal that Chelsea are the latest club to be linked with a move for Liverpool target Nicolo Barella.

According to the Italian media outlet CMW, they claim that despite interest from Liverpool and Tottenham, Thomas Tuchel's side is the latest to enter the race for the midfielder and could open talks in the 'next few days'.

The report adds Inter Milan could demand upwards of £70m as clubs across Europe prepare to battle for his signature.

Barella is only 25 but has built a growing reputation in recent seasons having helped Inter to win the title in 2020/21 as well as notching 13 assists last season in Serie A.

The Reds may have to sell a midfielder in order to bring one in, with Oxlade-Chamberlain seemingly the most likely to leave.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Pete O’Rourke has claimed that Liverpool would be open to the idea of selling the 35-cap England ace this summer if acceptable offers come in.

The journalist said: “If the right offer was made for him, I think Liverpool will consider cashing in on Oxlade-Chamberlain, but it does seem like his injury problems might prevent clubs from making moves for him.”
