Serious injury to midfielder could see Liverpool sign £31M before September 1st deadline

Liverpool's transfer business has been shrewd all summer and they could be about to add to it once again.

The Premier League transfer window slams shut at 11PM on Thursday September 1st.

As it stands their summer transfer activity is all wrapped up but a serious injury suffered by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in pre-season could force their hand.

The Reds have been linked with a move for a midfielder all summer despite having a fairly stacked roster of midfield talent.

However, this injury news could see them move quickly to sign a replacement before the window closes.

Who could they sign?

Despite links with Jude Bellingham, Matheus Nunes and Nicolo Barella - a new target has emerged in the form of Hakan Calhanoglu of Inter Milan.

Fans will remember him for his performances against the Reds in the Champions League last season.

He was one of the only players capable of driving Milan up the pitch and impressed on the ball across the two-legged tie.

What you might not know is Calhanoglu was responsible for one of the best free kicks of all time; his incredible 41-metre knuckleball strike is absolutely out of this world.

Caliciomercatoweb claim that Klopp is looking to 'fish in Italy' for a replacement and Calhanoglu is certainly a target.

Calhanoglu – who’s valued by Transfermarkt at £31.5M - was signed on a free transfer by Inter Milan following four years at AC Milan.

He has experience playing almost anywhere from central midfield all the way up to a false nine but was predominately used as a central midfielder with a license to roam and express himself.

This saw him record 13 assists and eight goals in all competitions last season in an impressive campaign and he would add a different dynamic to Liverpool's midfield.
