Sergio Ramos urges Kylian Mbappe to move to Real Madrid

Sergio Ramos has peculiarly urged Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe to leave the club and join Real Madrid one day.

Speaking to Spanish newspaper AS, the former Real Madrid defender said that all the best players have to move to the Santiago Bernabeu at some point in their careers.

“Of course. Madrid is one of the best clubs in the world. On a historical level, the best,” Ramos told AS when asked if he would advise Mbappe to move to the Bernabeu.

“For me, great players have to go through there. But now I want him on my team. I want to win and for that I want the best to be by my side.

“Advice on a personal level I could never give. I could tell him something from experience, but I would do it in private.

“As a PSG player, I would like him to stay. I like to play with the best and Mbappe is one of them.”

I can't imagine PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi will be happy to hear his latest signing suggesting that Mbappe, the club's most prized asset, should leave the club to join Madrid at any point in time.

He recently made the sensational claim that he will never let the 22-year-old leave Paris despite having just one more year on his contract.

"I will be clear, Mbappe is going to stay in Paris," Al-Khelaifi told L'Equipe. "We will never sell him and he will never leave on a free (transfer). Mbappe has everything he needs in Paris.

"Where can he go? What club, in terms of ambition, can compete with PSG today? All I can say is that things are going well and I hope we can reach an agreement (on a new contract).

"This is Paris, this is his country. He has a mission, not only to play football, but to promote Ligue 1, his country and his capital."

As things stand, it seems to be between Liverpool and Real Madrid to sign the Frenchman on a free transfer when his contract expires in June 2022.

While Jurgen Klopp certainly has an attractive style of play and has proved that he is a winner, Real Madrid will be able to offer a lot more money than the Reds.

No transfer fee will be required so it could come down to a bidding war over who can pay higher wages and that is a battle Liverpool will never win.

With 31-year-old Gareth Bale's Real Madrid contract expiring on June 2022, Los Blancos will be clearing his lucrative £600,000/week wages from their salary bill.

The La Liga outfit wouldn't even need to take any more money out of their pocket to sign Mbappe as they could just offer him Bale's wages but they would be making a rod for their own back.

Assuming they sign Mbappe to a five-year deal, he would likely demand even more when he turns 28 and this could put them in a financially insecure position.

For Liverpool, unless they enlist the help of Nike to subsidise his wages or shatter their wage structure, signing Mbappe seems like a pipe dream even on a free transfer.

In many ways, the attacker is a victim of his own meteoric rise to the top and while he could accept lower wages to move to Liverpool, that isn't likely.
