Ronald Araujo has reportedly given Barcelona president, Joan Laporta, an ultimatum and if refused, he could join Liverpool in the summer.

Liverpool have signed Luis Diaz from Porto this month, agreeing a €60million fee with the Liga Nos league leaders.

The Reds managed to score a bargain deal. Just €40m upfront and €20m in add-ons while they have also secured a deal for Fabio Carvalho although the 19-year-old will spend the rest of the season on loan with Fulham.

Yet again, Liverpool have conducted some brilliant business in the transfer market, moving only because they felt they had to sign a long-term target and an exciting prospect and not because they felt pressured to.

Which is why Araujo just simply doesn't make sense to me. El Nacional reports that the £50m ace has told Barcelona that unless they pay him more money, he will leave the club with Anfield his preferred next step.

Their headline reads: "More money or he goes with Klopp to Liverpool." They go on to say that Liverpool are "very close to Araujo" but they add that Chelsea are also interested in the 22-year-old defender.

Yet, if it's true that he's given Barcelona an ultimatum over his financial demands, I'm not sure Liverpool would want him. The Reds aren't a club that hand out massive contracts to new players unless they're full deserving.

Thiago Alcantara is the only player I can think of that walked into a genuinely incredible contract but he's one of the best midfielders of his generation and is deserving of it whereas Araujo has yet to achieve anything for Barcelona.

Besides, as things stand, Liverpool don't need a new centre-back and while Joe Gomez is someone that might rethink his future by the time the season ends if he isn't afforded more game time or if Jurgen Klopp doesn't guarantee him more starts next season, I'm still not confident Araujo is the man for Liverpool.
