Thomas Tuchel set to drop Romelu Lukaku for Liverpool showdown

Thomas Tuchel could drop Romelu Lukaku from the Chelsea squad when Liverpool travel to Stamford Bridge in a huge game at the top of the Premier League.

The headlines in the buildup to this match should be about how Manchester City are currently 11 points clear of Chelsea and 12 clear of Liverpool and while the Reds have two games in hand, it's not looking good.

Yet, the unprofessional comments Lukaku made surrounding his departure from Inter Milan, Tuchel's supposed decision to switch the system at Chelsea and a host of other things have understandably dominated the media's attention.

What did Romelu Lukaku say to anger Chelsea fans?

He told Sky Italia: "I think the boss has decided to play a different formation but I have to stick at it and get on with it professionally.

"I'm not happy with the situation but it's my job and I mustn't give up."

The former Manchester United forward questioned Tuchel's decision to change the formation at Chelsea but what has upset fans so much is his public declaration that he wants to return to Inter Milan.

He said: "I always said that I love Inter and I'll play for them again. I really hope so. I fell in love with Italy.

"I hope from the bottom of my heart to go back to Inter and not at the end of my career but when I'm still at a good enough level to win more trophies."

Will he face Liverpool?

Nizaar Kinsella reports for Goal that "Thomas Tuchel is considering dropping Romelu Lukaku" and the forward may not even be in the matchday squad let alone the starting XI.

Chelsea have a massive decision to make but after Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip pocketed him with ease at Anfield, it shouldn't make too much of a difference to them if he does start.

He's a world-class finisher and if the ball falls to him it would be a real worry for Liverpool but he doesn't have the style of play that can really hurt Jurgen Klopp's men.

Lukaku lack of professionalism another reason why Salah deserves more

The absolute lack of respect and professionalism shown by Lukaku to Chelsea fans and the club itself highlights the danger of paying individual players huge sums of money.

It inflates egos, self-importance and creates an issue where the Blues will now find themselves in a position where they can't really afford to drop Lukaku as they're paying him £325,000 per week at Chelsea, according to The Athletic.

Salah reportedly wants to be paid £400,000 per week which would make him the highest earner in the Premier league and unlike Lukaku, who, after being treated like a superstar, now believes his own hype, the Liverpool forward keeps his nose down and lets his football do the talking.

22 goals and 9 assists this season says plenty.
