Revealed: Length of Phillips' Liverpool contract means extension unnecessary

With Nat Phillips currently Liverpool's most important central defender, fans have urged the club to extend his contract but Anfield Central can confirm this is unnecessary.

With suggestions being made that Phillips, dubbed by supporters as the 'Bolton Baresi', is out of contract in the summer, we can confirm that he actually has two years remaining on an extension he signed in 2019.

While the details of the contract weren't made public, Phillips will remain a Liverpool player until 2023 at least. His performances this season have been fantastic, with his aerial ability particularly notable.

There has been no shortage of coverage of Virgil van Dijk's unfortunate ACL injury and while Joe Gomez's injury has received less attention, his absence has been felt all too keenly.

The two Liverpool defenders are some of the quickest centre-backs in world football and although Phillips is hardly a speed merchant, he has come on in leaps and bounds this season.

Liverpool fans and even the wider media have recognised his ability and while there is no urgent need to tie the 23-year-old down to a new contract, there is no doubt that his recent displays have sky-rocketed his stock with the Anfield hierarchy.
