Martin Odegaard has been ‘seduced’ by Jurgen Klopp will ‘ask to leave’ Real Madrid this summer, according to Spanish outlet AS.
The Reds defeated Odegaard and his Arsenal teammates on Saturday evening, winning 3-0 and Jurgen Klopp was pictured hugging and chatting to the Norwegian. Some fans on social media joked that the German was ‘tapping’ him up.
AS report that if Arsenal can’t afford to sign Odegaard permanently this summer then he could move to Liverpool, with Jurgen Klopp supposedly seducing him after full-time.
While it seems unlikely that Klopp was actually ‘tapping’ him up, it’s not the first time the North Londoners have been painted as a club in financial distress as, a bit closer to home, the Times reported that expensive transfers and high wages have landed Arsenal in hot waters financially.
Odegaard has shown already that he’s up to the Premier League standard but I’m not convinced he’s the type of midfielder that the Reds would be looking to add.
Liverpool typically look to play more conservative midfielders as they have their fullbacks bomb forward but I suppose a change of system could see a Philippe Coutinho-type no.8 introduced.
This still wouldn’t accommodate Odegaard too well as he’s more of a creator than a goalscoring no.8.
I also feel as though the report from AS is a little convenient as it came the day after Klopp was pictured chatting to him at the Emirates Stadium.
One player that would fit in well that the Reds have made an approach for is Emiliano Buendia.
The Norwich City star has 11 goals and 13 assists this season in the Championship and also managed 8 goal contributions last term when his side got relegated from the Premier League.
At 24, Buendia is about the enter his prime and so is the ideal profile that FSG like to invest in. While he typically plays on the wing or as an attacking midfielder, I’m sure Klopp could convert him into an attacking no.8 – a bit like Bruno Fernandes.
