Liverpool could sign Antony and get the last laugh over Manchester United after their pre-season defeat to the Red Devils.

The Merseyside contingent lost 4-0 to their rivals in Thailand. Of course, the result means little in the grand scheme of things.

Yet, it's never nice to see Man Utd fans celebrating. Especially at our expense.

According to reports, Liverpool could be set to gazump Erik Ten Hag and sign one of his reported priority targets.

This comes from Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola.

He told Yahoo – via Sport Witness – that Man Utd are "not alone" in the race to sign the Ajax star.

He has said that Liverpool have been "been keeping negotiations" both with Ajax and Antony’s agent Junior Pedroso.

He added that "it’s very possible" that in July, "this auction ends positively for a transfer" but did not make it clear whether or not it would be Liverpool or United that succeeds with their efforts.

Liverpool are said to be coming "strong for him" but with Ajax demanding €80M, the Reds will hope Nicola is right and the price ends up being around the €65M and €70M mark as he has claimed.

The Reds have already sanctioned a club-record fee to sign Darwin Nunez.

While I firmly believe that Liverpool have much deeper pockets than they let on, it's unlikely, in my opinion, they will sanction a mage money move for Antony.

I certainly hope so though. The 22-year-old was one of the most exciting players to watch in the Champions League last season.

In all competitions last season, he scored 12 goals and assisted 10 which means he has plenty of room to improve from a purely statistical point of view.

However, he would likely have a similar role to Luis Diaz at Liverpool if he joined.
