"That ship has probably sailed": Pundit claims £130,000/week star's time at Liverpool is coming to an end 

Paul Robinson has suggested that Liverpool's lack of contract talks with Naby Keita would suggest he is unlikely to remain at the club beyond the summer of 2023.

This site and others have produced enough articles on Keita's injuries over the last few years to fill a library and with his contract set to expire in 15 months, Liverpool have a major decision to make.

The player they signed for £52million and pay £130,000 per week is a natural fit for Jurgen Klopp's team but is he a long-term fit for the club?

Based on his injury record, Liverpool may be minded to sell him at the end of the season or let his contract run out but with talks not reported to be underway, Robinson believes it points towards an eventual exit.

“Why do clubs let players go this late into their contracts if they want to keep him?” the former England no.1 told Football Insider.

“That ship has probably sailed if no talks have taken place so far. Let’s be honest, it is not a deal that would break the bank and alter the wage structure. It would just be an extension.

“The fact that nothing has been done says to me that the ship has sailed.”

Keita is perfect for Liverpool but things simply haven't gone his way so far.

The Guinean will be desperate for better luck between now and the end of next season in the hopes it sparks a change of mind on his contract.

There's still time for his career to take shape and while he's not likely to ever fill the boots of the last no.8 to play for the Reds, the flashes of brilliance he's shown indicates there is still more in store.

At 27, the clock isn't just ticking on his Anfield career but his time as a player and with some luck, he might just turn things around.
