Player who would join Liverpool immediately could join West Ham instead - Hammers already have a £19M fee agreement

West Ham are targeting a £19M midfielder who would join Liverpool 'in a heartbeat' if the Reds came in for the Belgian.

Liverpool have been linked with a midfield signing this summer, but have only strengthened in defence and attack so far.

With an injury suffered by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, it could leave the Reds short in midfield.

Whereas the Hammers are targeting a bid for Lille's Amadou Onana, reports claim he wouldn't hesitate to join an elite club such as Liverpool.

Latest reports on Onana

The latest reports claim that West Ham have struck a deal worth €35M + €5M bonuses for midfielder Amadou Onana, according to @SaberDesfa.

Personal terms still need to be agreed but the 20-year-old is keen on a move to the Premier League.

Onana had attracted attention from other PL clubs; 90Min claims there was added interest from Everton and Newcastle United whilst The Athletic have also linked Onana to moves to Liverpool and Arsenal.

The Hammers have lost legend Mark Noble to retirement, whilst Alex Kral returned to Spartak Moscow after his loan, but the club has brought in Flynn Downes from Swansea but want to strengthen further here.

Would he join Liverpool?

Onana has previously stated he would jump at the chance to sign for the Merseyside outfit if it became possible.

He is said to keen to follow in the footsteps of previous Belgians who left Lille for Premier League clubs and went on to achieve success, like Eden Hazard and Divock Origi.

“This connection between Lille and the Belgians has always worked very well,” Onana told RMC Sport in October. “There is no reason for it not to work this time.

“These are players who have had a very good career, who are now at Liverpool and Real Madrid. If it goes like that for me, I sign immediately.”
