Sadio Mane and Edouard Mendy have posed for a photo together on a private plane as they jet off to Cameroon for AFCON following the thrilling 2-2 draw between Chelsea and Liverpool.

Amid the debate over whether or not the Nations Cup should be hosted in January, Chelsea vs. Liverpool reminded the world just how important African talent is to the Premier League.

For Liverpool, their only two goals of the game came through Senegalese Sadio Mane and Egyptian Mohamed Salah while Guinean Naby Keita came off the bench later on to give the Reds fresh legs.

Chelsea’s shot-stopper might have been given the eyes by Mohamed Salah in the first half but he made up for it throughout the rest of the game with fine footwork and distribution to keep the Blues in the game.

Edouard Mendy and Mohamed Salah AFCON

Jurgen Klopp is going to sorely miss his African contingent and while the Premier League title race already feels like a foregone conclusion, the hopes are that the wheels don’t fall off this month without Mane and Salah.

Mane and Mendy, teammates for Senegal, will have high hopes of winning the tournament as one of the strongest sides in attendance while Salah will be hoping to inspire a weaker Egypt team to unexpected glory.

Keita, unfortunately, isn’t expected to lift the AFCON trophy and so Liverpool fans are just praying he returns to Anfield without any fresh injury problems.

The Premier League season isn’t over and all three of Pep, Tuchel and Klopp will be insistent that the title race isn’t done until it’s mathematically impossible for any other side to win the league.
