“Gorgeous, glorious, players at their absolute zenith:” Watch Peter Drury’s poetic commentary of Liverpool 4-0 Man Utd

Peter Drury is the greatest football commentator alive and he was in the mood for it as Liverpool put four past Manchester United to go top of the Premier League table.

Luis Diaz got a goal and an assist as he slowly begins to find the attacking output which prompted Jurgen Klopp to spend €60m on him.

Sadio Mane also got a goal and an assist as his new false nine role continues to get the best out of him in 2022.

Mohamed Salah seems to have found his confidence again as he got two goals and an assist to wrap things up.

1-0 – Mane to Salah, Salah to Diaz

Liverpool wasted no time in reminding Manchester United that they are levels below this Klopp side.

Harry Maguire stepped up to meet Sadio Mane, took a step back and in the split second the United defender couldn’t make his mind up, the Senegal attacker turned and fired a through ball towards Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

“Mane that’s a smashing ball,’ said Drury as the ball fizzed behind the Red Devils’ defence and with Salah better placed, Trent left his Egyptian teammate to it.

The result? A perfectly weighted cross to Diaz. The Colombian could do nothing but score past David De Gea, whose positioning was negative and indicative of the fear this side strikes into the hearts of their opponents.

It took four minutes.

Peter Drury took over: “Salah’s on his way and he’s rolled it in for DIAZ! So smooth, just so smooth.”

2-0 – Mane’s dainty pass restores Salah’s confidence

Salah has recently struggled for confidence and he’s been really unlucky as well with the ball not falling his way at times.

After a delightful exchange of passes in midfield, the ball came to Mane and his pass to Salah made sure that his teammate got back to scoring in the Premier League. The no.11 had to take a world-class first touch to set himself up but the finish was so cool.

The pass from Mane, however, was something Thiago or even Lionel Messi would be proud of.

Peter Drury was typically poetic in response: “Mane, oh that’s glorious! Salah, that’s beautiful! OHHH, that is gorgeous.

“There really is no improvement on that. Players at their absolute zenith.”

3-0 – Mane’s movement and finishing make him the perfect no.9

He may have spent his entire career playing on the wing and has formed a reputation for being one of the most deadly forwards in the world, but his belief and athleticism were at an all-time low at the end of 2021.

Since Diaz’s arrival, however, he has been sensational as a false nine which is why it was fitting the Colombian was the one to assist his goal and Liverpool’s third on the night.

“Another Sadio Mane gift to the Kop in front of the Kop,” Drury commented as the Senegal attacker showed his love to the Anfield crowd.

4-0 – Salah dinks De Gea to make it 9-0 on aggregate this season

After Robertson robbed Mejbri of the ball and played Jota in, he released Salah who had a foot race with Aaron Wan Bissaka to reach De Gea.

Once the United fullback predictably slid in to block the ball, the Liverpool forward dinked the ball and with a kind deflection, the ball sailed over De Gea to make it 4-0.

And Drury, football’s greatest poet, exclaimed: “Here’s Mo Salah and Salah has dinked it in delightfully, teasingly, tantalisingly, magically in front of the Kop 4-0 Liverpool!!”
