Opinion: Mbappe's 10-word response suggests he's open to a LFC move

Kylian Mbappe is the player every club in Europe wants but the finances involved mean that even the likes of Manchester City would think twice about signing him.

Still only 22, the French forward is already one of the best players on the planet. He got 42 goals and 11 assists this season for PSG and was ever so close to reaching another Champions League final.

With the Euros and summer transfer window now looming large, Mbappe is going to need to make a decision on his future soon and has been speaking to tv station Canal+, via Marca, about what the next few years hold for him.

He said: "I'm in talks with the club, we'll see what happens [with my contract]."

Liverpool are looking for a new forward after a season in which Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane battled for form. Between them, they managed just 25 Premier League goals while Mohamed Salah got 22 on his own.

There is a case to be made that Mane, in particular, has battled this season due to the nature of a campaign played without fans, without key players like van Dijk not to mention the effect contracting covid has for athletes.

Firmino, on the other hand, just simply isn't a striker and Liverpool desperately need a player in the no.9 role that can score 20-30 goals a season and help take some of the responsibility off Salah's shoulders.

Mbappe is one such player and if FSG has anywhere near enough money to sign him they absolutely have to.

Not only does Mbappe take Liverpool back to being Premier League title favourites but he also guarantees domestic and continental success for the next decade.

Every club in Europe will know that whoever signs the Frenchman and Haaland will be vying at the top for the next several years to come.

Liverpool have never been the type of club to break transfer records, with their £75m move for van Dijk the exception to the rule. It's time, however, for that rule to be broken again.

Liverpool fans have once again grown accustomed to seeing their club at the top of the European football food chain and after a season that somehow saw the Reds finish in the top four, Jurgen Klopp needs to do everything he can to get his side competing for silverware again.

Even if Mbappe doesn't arrive (it's a dream move anyway), the Anfield outfit will be making additions after a season that exposed their lack of squad depth.

Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Jordan Henderson returning to the side will also help restore a semblance of normality.
