An official complaint has been made to FIFA over an unpaid Liverpool transfer fee, a report claims, with a legal battle set to ensue.
Fortunately, it’s not Liverpool who are being brought into disrepute but rather Benfica, with a claim being alleged that Diaz’s former club, Junior Barranquilla, are owed 20% of the proceeds from the sale to the Reds.
Liverpool have already paid €15M of the total agreed fee of €45m plus €15m in bonuses – €60M overall.
Barranquilla are allegedly due €3M which has not been paid to them by Benfica. The Colombian side has hired a firm a Swiss company, MS International Law, to settle the dispute.
Liverpool are innocent of any wrongdoing so fortunately, they are free and clear.
Diaz is expected to shine again for the Reds this season as part of a new-look Liverpool attack featuring freshly re-committed Mohamed Salah and new-signing Darwin Nunez.
The Uruguayan joined from Benfica and fans are desperate to see him in action once he reports for pre-season.
