"No proposals or negotiations": Fabrizio Romano provides transfer report blow on £75M Liverpool midfield target

Fabrizio Romano reports that Liverpool are not in discussions with Inter Milan over a deal to sign Nicolo Barella.

The midfielder would reportedly cost between £75M and £100M this summer which is far beyond what Liverpool may be prepared to sign a new midfielder.

With Jurgen Klopp juggling injuries to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Thiago and Curtis Jones as well as injuries in various other positions to the likes of Ibrahima Konate and Diogo Jota, a new signing has been suggested by a number of fans and pundits.

The overwhelming favourite is Matheus Nunes as supporters understand a deal to sign Jude Bellingham simply isn't in the cards this month.

Barella has also been heavily linked with Liverpool, with the Mirror reporting that a deal to sign the Italian would cost in the region of £75M-£100M.

Yesterday, Anfield Central's George Priestman wrote: "He would certainly help create chances from midfield given he ranks in the 98th percentile for Shot-creating actions per 90 with 4.07.

"He also ranks highly (95th percentile) for progressive passes with 4.78 and for touches in the opposition area (3.17) which shows his ability to help transition quickly and how he likes to join attacks from midfield."

Yet, despite interest from the Reds, Fabrizio Romano reports that there are no plans or talks underway to sign him before the transfer deadline on September 1.

There’s been talk of long-term interest from Liverpool in Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella, but unfortunately it doesn’t go much further than that, Reds fans,” Romano said.

So far, there are no proposals or negotiations between Liverpool and Inter Milan. Barella extended his contract with Inter a few months ago and the club sees him as the captain of the future.

“I think it’s a more than difficult deal for this summer so we’ll see what happens in the future; for now Barella is only focused on Inter Milan.”
