World Cup winner dropped after contract rejected as Liverpool tipped to gazump €3m/season salary offer to sign 28yo

Liverpool transfer target Matthias Ginter has rejected a new contract and has been dropped from the Borussia Monchengladbach starting XI in a massive boost for the Reds' reported interest.

At the start of the month, Anfield Central covered a report from FC Inter News which stated that the Reds are interested in Ginter, who will be a free agent in the summer when his current terms expire unless Gladbach can convince him to sign a new deal.

He has now rejected that deal, according to a report from Buli News, and has been iced out by Adolf Hütter and according to the previous claims from FC Inter News, the Reds are the favourites to land versatile and highly rated Borussia Monchengladbach star.

The report claims that there is a growing feeling that Liverpool will act ‘clever’ and make a higher salary offer to beat Inter Milan to a deal and sign Ginter.

They have made an offer of €3million (£2.5m) per season or £48,000/week which is quite low. Liverpool could easily make Ginter a higher offer to tempt him to move to Anfield if they're genuinely seriously interested in him but I have my doubts.

While Ginter can play in central midfielder and even at right-back, he has played all of his games at centre-back this season.

And Liverpool simply do not need to sign another central defender. Nat Phillips is on his way out of the club this month as look for a club to sell him to while Rhys Williams is being recalled from his Swansea City loan.

Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate are more than enough in terms of defensive cover at centre-back for Jurgen Klopp to keep his back four well-stocked.

Ginter is a World Cup winner but his age is another issue.

He's already 28 and so he would be well into his 30s by the time his first contract with the club is over and that gives the club very few options in terms of resale.

Liverpool need to make signings this month but they need them higher up the pitch with a new no.8 and a versatile attacker of much higher importance right now.
