Match Preview: Manchester City vs Liverpool

Liverpool will travel to the Etihad Stadium Thursday night to face a Manchester City side looking for revenge.

The Reds will walk out onto the pitch to a guard of honour from Pep Guardiola's men. The guard of honour will signify a huge power shift with the new champions arriving at the Etihad.

Liverpool's last game saw the Reds cruise to a 4-0 victory over Crystal Palace. This performance put the goalless draw at Goodison Park to the back of every fan's mind. A sublime free-kick from Trent Alexander-Arnold made the score 1-0 after 23 minutes.

Then Fabinho played an inch-perfect pass for Salah to make it 2-0 before halftime. The Reds then made it 4-0 thanks to Fabinho and Mane. That win took Liverpool one positive win away from the title.

All eyes then turned to Stamford Bridge the next day as Manchester City needed a win to keep Liverpool fans waiting a little longer to be crowned champions. However, Chelsea had other plans as they needed a result to cement a top-four finish, and Frank Lampard's men did just that winning 2-1. In one of the craziest games of the season City's vulnerability at the back saw them concede two needless goals from Pulisic and Willian. A Kevin De Bruyne free-kick gave them hope but the reigning champions could not rally for the win.

The previous meeting between these two sides saw Liverpool beat City 3-1 at Anfield back in November. Goals from Fabinho, Salah and Mane saw the reds take momentum in the title race.

That stats between these two sides make for interesting reading. The first stat is Manchester City have only won two of their last 10 league games against Liverpool. Which is interesting when you think of how dominant City have been under Guardiola since his arrival.

On the other side of that stat, Liverpool have not won at the Etihad since the Reds won 4-1 back in 2015. That game was only Klopp's fifth game in charge of Liverpool.

The team news for Manchester City sees Ederson, Bernado Silva, Rodri and Phil Foden all looking to feature in the starting XI after missing the FA Cup win against Newcastle on Sunday. Midfielder Fernandinho is still suspended and Aguero is out for the rest of the season.

The team news for Liverpool sees Joel Matip as their only fresh injury concern. The club announced that Matip would miss the remained of the season with a toe injury. This game appears to soon for James Milner to return from a hamstring injury as Xherdan Shaqiri has returned to training.

Manchester City team prediction: Ederson; Walker, Otamendi, Laporte, Mendy; De Bruyne, Rodri, Foden; Bernardo, Jesus, Sterling

Liverpool team prediction: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson; Henderson, Fabinho, Wijnaldum; Salah, Firmino, Mane
