Manchester City selling Silva could spell doom for Liverpool's pursuit of £103m 'generational star'

Manchester City selling Silva could spell doom for Liverpool's pursuit of £103m 'generational star'

If Manchester City do sell Bernardo Silva to Barcelona, then that could put Liverpool's move for their star £103m target in doubt.

Liverpool have been strongly linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund's Jude Bellingham and the news of Silva potentially leaving could spark trouble for the Reds.

Silva had flirted with a move away last summer and it was likely he would leave, if not this summer, then definitely the following.

Bellingham has been linked with City but not as strongly as Liverpool, but this news could see them emerge as leading contenders for the star's signature.

Bellingham to Liverpool latest news

Bellingham has been strongly linked with Liverpool all summer, but sadly, the midfielder will stay at Dortmund this season. Reports recently have claimed that (Football Insider) a deal could be agreed “within weeks” as negotiations behind the scenes are going well.

This does seem slightly conflicting because he is staying another year in Germany, but it suggests an agreement for next season.

Either way, the links are consistent and Liverpool's strong stance on not needing to sign anybody (as Klopp claimed) suggests they have a target in mind, who just happens to be available next summer.

It also back's up Jamie Carragher's claim that the club have 'one player in mind', as he said a few days ago.

Could City sign Bellingham?

City were on track to lose Silva and Ilkay Gundogan next summer with both seeking new surroundings after an incredibly successful spell of winning almost everything.

But that would leave a huge gap in City's midfield. Especially given how much they contribute goals and assists wise too.

Bellingham would be a natural replacement that would bed in alongside KDB who can bomb on, whilst Bellingham operates as a box-to-box and Rodri can sit.

If Liverpool and Manchester City get into a bidding war with huge fees of money and expensive contract deals then surely think Liverpool won't be able to match City's financial power.
