Cody Gakpo may seal a move to Manchester United this summer if reports are true about an impending bid from the Red Devils.

The Dutchman has been a target of Liverpool's for over a year now and was widely reported as a target last summer at the same time the Reds were linked with a move to sign Donyell Malen before he joined Borussia Dortmund.

At the time, I was really keen to see Malen join Liverpool but the concerns I raised over his ability to translate his hot Eredivisie form to a more competitive league proved valid after he scored just 9 goals.

Gakpo, his former PSV teammate, is now linked with a move of his own to the Premier League but Manchester United may be the team to sign him.

Earlier this summer, Liverpool held talks with the forward's "management" - as did Leeds United and Manchester City, according to Voetbal International.

Now, Sky Sports reports that Manchester United are "preparing a move for" the forward and Ruud van Nistelrooy is his agent, which could 'smooth' negotiations, as per the Liverpool Echo.

Jurgen Klopp may soon make a signing of his own as the German weighs up a midfield signing to cope with the increasing pressure to bolster his engine room in the wake of a spate of injuries.

Liverpool have several injuries to key players in various positions but midfield has been hit the hardest.

Drawing 2-2 with Fulham may turn out to be a blessing in disguise for Klopp if it means the owners, FSG, invest into the squad for the fourth time this summer.

Supporters widely believe that Liverpool's current midfield options are not enough to cope as the club targets another season of competing at the top end of the European game.

The Anfield outfit came agonisingly close to winning an unprecedented quadruple last season but had to be content with the FA Cup and Carabao Cup after they fell at the final hurdle in both the Premier League and the Champions League.
