Liverpool won't 'panic' when it comes to midfield injury issues - could a move to 4-2-3-1 fix their problems?

Liverpool are debating signing a midfielder to cover their injury issues, but the club looks set to continue with the current squad.

The Reds have been linked with moves for some high-profile names but Jurgen Klopp looks set to soldier on with his current squad.

Whilst their midfield squad looks deep, if you analyse it more closely you'll notice that the backup includes two very talented but inexperienced young stars, a 36-year-old James Milner, an injury-prone Naby Keita with Thiago, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Curtis Jones all injured.

A new signing would no doubt be a godsend if it's the right player, but signing someone would make their full-strength midfield roster incredibly saturated.

Do Liverpool stick or twist?

Will Liverpool move for anyone?

As said by James Pearce of the Athletic: "There’s a growing clamour among sections of the fanbase for Liverpool to dip into the transfer market to ease their problems in the engine room.

"However, so far there’s no sign of the club’s stance changing on that front, with the manager adamant they won’t “panic”.

The latest reports have seen Liverpool most strongly linked with Sporting's Matheus Nunes, a player who suits the Reds and is financially viable right now.

With injuries to Thiago, Curtis Jones and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as well as question marks over the reliability of their midfield, a new option may be explored.

Klopp can play youngster Harvey Elliott in midfield or new signing Fabio Carvalho, but they are players for the future and the club may want to sign a true central midfield player instead.

If they don't sign anyone this summer, then Klopp could look to move back to a 4-2-3-1 formation that was so successful for him at Borussia Dortmund.

This would reduce the demand on Liverpool's current midfield roster and allow for one of either Elliott or Carvalho to dazzle in a more attacking formation, in a position that suits them more.

Fabinho and Jordan Henderson can sit and James Milner can be used as a rotation with Naby Keita as another option whilst they wait for Thiago to recover.

Big midfield squad if a player signed

If Liverpool do move for someone and then everyone recovers from their injuries, then their midfield will be incredibly saturated with players.

It may even result in a January move away for some of the fringe midfielders such as Oxlade-Chamberlain.

It may even involve a loan move for someone like Jones, who has struggled for game time and may receive even less with Elliot and Carvalho so highly favoured.

A move for a midfielder now would only benefit the team, but long term. there's certainly a discussion to be had around the midfield options at Anfield.
