Liverpool are keen to use Marko Grujic in a deal to sign Donyell Malen from PSV Eindhoven this summer.
Roberto Firmino is a fan favourite and that will never change in my opinion.
The Brazilian reminds me so much of his compatriot, Ronaldinho. He always plays football with a smile on his face and seems to prioritise having fun over everything else.
That’s not to say he’s not a top player because we all know he’s top-notch.
While I hope Bobby can return to his 2017/18 form which saw him score 27 times and assist 17 goals, he needs quality competition to reach that level.
Last season, his form only really dipped when Diogo Jota was injured as his only genuine competition was Divock Origi.
The Belgian has fallen off massively and Liverpool are open to selling him if they receive an offer for his services that aligns with their valuation of him.
Marko Grujic being used by Liverpool
Last week, Sassuolo News claimed that Marko Grujic could be used by the Reds to lower the Serie A side’s asking price for Domenico Berardi.
Spending €50million on the EURO 2020 winner seems unlikely given that Liverpool are more in need of a centre forward to compete with Firmino.
That said, O Jogo reports that Liverpool have made an offer to PSV Eindhoven for Donyell Malen that includes Grujic as a makeweight.
Of course, as Jurgen Klopp exposed, we don’t know everything and it could be that the Reds have made an offer to PSV for the 22-year-old.
Malen signing makes perfect sense
I hope I’m wrong in fact as I really want Malen to join Liverpool this summer. He ticks all the boxes that the Reds should be looking at in a forward to challenge Firmino.
Not only is he quick, clinical, superb at running with the ball but the Holland international can also play on either wing.
This versatility would be a massive bonus as it would mean that he’d provide Firmino with the competition he needs to kick on and reach his previous heights but also provide Salah with the cover he needs.
Salah hardly ever gets a rest and when he does, the dropoff in quality is enormous. Of course, Harvey Elliott is being kept at Anfield this season so there will be more depth in attack this season before signings are made.
That said, Klopp won’t want to have to place all his trust in an 18-year-old if Salah suffers a serious injury and so Malen’s arrival would be a more experienced option in big games where a more pacey option is needed.
