Liverpool want to follow Diaz deal by signing €26m Brazilian - Reds made 'official proposal' and player is 'tempted'

Liverpool have reportedly made an 'official proposal' to Atletico Madrid for Matheus Cunha and the Brazilian is apparently tempted to make the switch to Anfield.

Luis Diaz will soon be a Red after the Merseysiders accelerated their interest to ensure he would not panic and join Spurs this month but they could add another South American to their squad.

Proposal made to Atletico Madrid for Matheus Cunha - ‘tempted the player’

The January transfer window was dead boring for about 25 days but since the winter break began, things have picked up considerably for those of an Anfield persuasion and it could get out of hand.

According to AS, Liverpool have shown a 'strong interest' in the 22-year-old and have now made an offer to Atleti to sign him.

The report states that his performances this season, which have earned him a call up to the Brazil squad under Tite, have also caught the attention of the Reds although, as a centre-forward, you would expect him to have more than 5 goals and 3 assists.

Liverpool have reportedly made an 'official proposal' for Cunha, who only joined Madrid in the summer for €26million.

Klopp believes Cunha's ‘strength and quality’ are suitable to Liverpool's style but Atletico have resisted with an ‘initial refusal’ and have displayed ‘no willingness to sell’ this month although that should be no surprise as clubs are often reluctant to part ways with players when it's difficult to replace them.

Cunha not what Liverpool need and could use time to develop

The former Hertha Berlin star has not set the world alight in La Liga so far but he's still very young and he's very highly rated.

Now is not the time for him to make the step up to a team like Liverpool where he will immediately be under pressure to deliver the goods.

Cunha has scored 5 goals and 3 assists and so a strong end to the season could see him make the strides necessary to enter the conversation where he could be ready to play for an elite team like Jurgen Klopp's.

For now, considering the striker has only marginally better stats this season than Takumi Minamino having played almost exactly the same number of minutes (721 v 732), it's not a move that makes the most sense for Liverpool.

Luis Diaz on the other hand. Wow. What a player Liverpool seem to have captured.

The Colombian is 25 and so is 3 years ahead of Cunha in his development and has 16 goals and 6 assists this season.

It must be said that he is playing in Liga Nos compared to La Liga but he shone in the Copa America where he scored a bicycle kick against Brazil and he has been excellent in the Champions League this season too.
