James Ward Prowse is a free-kick master and for those that watch Southampton regularly, he's actually very good at counter-pressing.

His freekick against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the weekend wasn't your run of the mill, over the wall type set piece. It was a truly sensational piece of technique that only the very best players can pull off.

Crooks said on BBC Sport: “The free-kick scored by Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse against Wolves was outstanding, though.

“How long are Liverpool going to wait to buy Ward-Prowse? They allowed Georginio Wijnaldum to leave on a free transfer and are struggling in that midfield department. Ward-Prowse would fit like a glove.”

The question is: is he good enough for Liverpool? I'm not quite sure. He's already 27 so if he were to sign on a five-year contract as you would imagine he would, there would be little to no resale value for the Reds.

As it is, he's under contract with Southampton until 2026 so Ralph Hasenhutl and his board hold all the cards should Liverpool or another side come knocking.

He would want an increase on the wages he's already earning as well and Southampton are already paying him £100,000/week so overall, it's not a deal that makes perfect sense for Liverpool even if it's one that I think would be fun to see.

Liverpool need to be targeting the very best players in the world and without disrespecting Ward-Prowse, he's not world-class even if he's capable of producing moments of magic like he did against Wolves.
