Liverpool to submit official €33.7M bid to sign 5ft9 midfielder that would solve all of their problems

Liverpool are in a midfield injury crisis and they may look to solve it with a transfer before the transfer deadline on September 1.

Jurgen Klopp's side isn't in a season-threatening position yet despite having four midfielders out injured but any more injuries could begin to call into question their title credentials.

The German already has Curtis Jones, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Thiago and Naby Keita out although the latter is just ill and returning soon yet insecurities linger over his injury track record.

The reaction from some corners of the media to Liverpool drawing 2-2 with Fulham on the first day of the new Premier League season was ridiculous.

Yet, there are a number of fans that are worried Liverpool don't have the midfield firepower to match their quality in goal, defence and attack.

The reason Manchester City beat the Reds to the title last season was due to the difference in class in midfield.

It's too early to say how well Liverpool will do this season but more is needed in midfield both from a depth point of view as well as in terms of quality.

The drop-off in class from Fabinho and Thiago to the rest is quite stark even if the likes of Fabio Carvalho and Harvey Elliott are very exciting.

The Liverpool Echo has covered a story from Calciomercato which states that Liverpool are to "launch a €40M bid" (roughly €33.7M depending on the exchange rate) for AC Milan star Ismael Benaccer.

The midfielder has a €50M (£42M) release clause in his contract and ticks all the boxes for what Klopp likes in a midfielder.

He's hard-working, technically astute, wins the ball with frightening regularity, can drive through midfield and isn't shy to throw his body around.

Most importantly, the 5ft9 Algerian is very press resistant and doesn't often make errors which is obviously important for an elite team.

The biggest hurdle will be convincing AC Milan to sell right before they begin their Serie A title defence next weekend.

The Italians added Divock Origi to their squad this summer after his Liverpool contract expired following a very memorable career on Merseyside that spanned 8 years.
