Liverpool to go 'all-in' for midfield target - after Fabrizio Romano claims they won't sign £75M star

Fabrizio Romano's comments suggest that Liverpool will go 'all in' for their main target after he quashed talk of signing a EURO 2020 champion.

The Reds have been heavily linked with a move for a midfielder this summer, with the same few names cropping up in transfer reports.

Fans were hoping they would secure a marquee summer signing in the middle of the pitch but it remains to be seen with a few weeks of the window left.

However, according to the latest reports, Liverpool won't be moving for Inter Milan's Nicolo Barella anytime soon.

Writing in his CaughtOffside column on Substack, Romano played down any prospect of Liverpool moving for Barella any time soon, with the Italy international recently signing a new contract with Inter and being fully focused on his current club.

There’s been talk of long-term interest from Liverpool in Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella, but unfortunately it doesn’t go much further than that, Reds fans,” Romano said.

So far, there are no proposals or negotiations between Liverpool and Inter Milan. Barella extended his contract with Inter a few months ago and the club sees him as the captain of the future."

It seems likely the midfielder star will stay in Italy, given Barella is 'only focused on Milan' given he could become a legend there.

This leaves the Reds with only two prime midfield targets: Jude Bellingham and Matheus Nunes. Seemingly Bellingham is the long-term option that has begun behind the scenes for a summer 2023 move.

However, if they were to move for someone this summer to cover their injury worries, Nunes of Sporting is available and waiting for Liverpool to sign him.

Sign now or next summer?

If fans could choose between signing Nunes now or Bellingham next summer, surely fans would choose the latter.

The Reds currently are ruing the injuries of Thiago, Curtis Jones and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, whilst the cover is 36-year-old James Milner and two extremely talented but also very young players in Harvey Elliot and Fabio Carvalho.

This could become a real issue over the course of the season and the signing of Nunes this summer could be a wise one given the likes of Chamberlain, Milner and even Naby Keita (now in the final year of his contract) could go next summer.

Bringing in quality that could definitely work with the current system could help elevate Liverpool to another level in their pursuit of more trophy success.
