Talks already underway - Liverpool named as favourites in race to land £90million future superstar

Liverpool reportedly opened talks with Borussia Dortmund for Jude Bellingham before Christmas last year and have now been tipped to land the future superstar valued at £90million.

The Englishman is widely considered to be on his way to becoming one of the best if not the best midfielder in the world.

He's still only 18 and so expectations need to be reeled in somewhat but he plays with surprising maturity while his ability, technical quality and physicality belie his tender age.

At the start of December, the Mirror reported that Liverpool were leading the race to sign the BVB star and that Jurgen Klopp and the Reds are not put off by the £90million asking price that Dortmund have slapped on their teenager's head.

Football Insider reports that talks have already begun between Liverpool and Dortmund over a deal to take Bellingham to Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp will be all too aware of how his midfield is ageing and prone to injury. Jordan Henderson may have just put pen to paper on a new deal but he's already 31, Thiago is 30 and injury-prone, Naby Keita is just injury-prone and James Milner, whose contract expires at the end of the season, is 36 and injury-prone.

The fact that many of the midfielders at the club have major issues makes the decision to let Georginio Wijnaldum leave look even worse.

Signing Jude Bellingham is a must and speaking to Football Insider, Kevin Phillips says he thinks Liverpool will get the deal done.

He said: “Milner and Henderson will be another year older so I think it’s vital they get another midfielder in.

“There’s been a lot of talk about Jude Bellingham. He is someone who could be the long-term future of that midfield. He could be one that comes in.

“Milner has been an incredible servant but his time will come eventually. For a club of Liverpool’s size and the position they are in, they need a world-class centre-midfielder. Jude Bellingham is one player who certainly fits the mould.

“It’s an area they need to address in the summer, 100 per cent, and I think they will.”
