'Will be heavy negotiations at Liverpool': Michael Edwards set for talks to sign gem 'willing to come to Liverpool'

There "will be heavy negotiations at Liverpool" over Fabio Carvalho and a potential switch from Craven Cottage to Anfield over the next few months, reports Neil Jones.

By now, fans should be well-versed on the way a deal for the 19-year-old capitulated after an £8million agreement with Fulham tanked due to a lack of time on Deadline Day last month.

Carvalho is "happy to come" as Liverpool plan "heavy negotiations"

However, Neil Jones has told the Redmen TV's Journo Insight Show that there is still a very strong chance that Liverpool complete a deal to sign the young playmaker before the end of the season.

Jones said: “Why would they want to sign him before the deadline? It’s because it avoids months of the risk of the phone ringing and someone saying, ‘Leipzig have said we’ll give him the number ten shirt, and he’s going to start every game.’

“That kind of risk that Liverpool are taking bodes well, that he was obviously going to join Liverpool, he was prepared to join, he was ready to. He was willing to come to Liverpool, so hopefully, that bodes well for whatever happens now.

“I’m not going to say ‘I’m sure’, but I’m sure there will be heavy negotiations at Liverpool.

“The player is happy to come, hopefully, Liverpool will get it done. The reason they wanted it done there and then is so they can put their feet up for the next four months without worrying about who’s pitching his parents, who is trying to turn his head, who has suddenly entered the race.

“There are a lot of clubs, I think Chelsea are one of the clubs who would absolutely take Fabio Carvalho. That was why Liverpool wanted to get the deal done.”

Liverpool acted so quickly to avoid being gazumped - danger still present

While the framework for a deal is there and it's clear that Carvalho would love to join the Reds, so long as a deal has not been finalised, there is the danger that a club like Chelsea can step in and lure the 19-year-old away to Stamford Bridge.

That's why Liverpool were so desperate to get a deal over the line on Deadline Day. They were more than happy to loan the youngster back to Fulham which was a non-negotiable for the London-based club but it was all about beating the competition for Liverpool.

Yet, that objective was missed as the attacking midfielder could be poached by the likes of RB Leipzig, Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich or Chelsea if they come in with a more attractive offer.
