Liverpool robbed by VAR again but Saints deserved win regardless of refereeing

Liverpool once again had key decisions go against them in the Premier League but after another toothless display from the Reds, fans will admit Southampton were deserving winners.

Ralph Hasenhüttl's teary passion at fulltime summed up the difference between the two sides on Monday evening.

Southampton were hungry and energetic while Liverpool looked short on ideas and in need of a helping hand from the officials.

Liverpool should have been awarded a penalty for a handball in the box from Southampton defender Jack Stephens.

Later in the second half, Sadio Mane turned Kyle Walker-Peters and had his heels clipped only for his penalty claim to be rejected by Marriner.

Reds fans will be the first to admit that the quality simply wasn't there on Monday night but after Paul Pogba was awarded a penalty for tripping himself against Aston Villa, Liverpool fans just want consistency from officials.

The result is a damning one as it allows Manchester United the chance to go top of the table with a win over Burnley.

Liverpool will host the Red Devils at Anfield on the 17th of January and it's a must-win for Jurgen Klopp's men if they're going to defend their title this season.
