Liverpool ready to pull trigger and pay release clause to sign goalscorer worth €41.9m

Liverpool are ready to pay €30million to sign Lorenzo Pellegrini as a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum as AS Roma struggle to reach an agreement with the midfielder.1

The Dutchman has sealed a move to Paris Saint-Germain where he will reportedly earn £160,000/week but Liverpool need to prepare for life without him and Pellegrini is someone that can fill his role.

Still only 24, the AS Roma skipper has just one year left on his contract with the Serie A side and is mentioned as a player that could join the Reds this summer.

What the reports say about Pellegrini to Liverpool

Last week we covered a report from Corriere dello Sport that claimed that an offer has been made to sign the midfielder.

The report states that he has a €30m (£25.8m) release clause in his contract which makes signing him pretty straightforward and it would purely be a case of getting him to agree to a move to Anfield and agreeing on personal terms.

La Repubblica credits Spurs with an interest in Pellegrini as new manager Paulo Fonseca wants to bring his former captain with him to North London but Calciomercato claims that he is in talks to renew his deal in Rome.

They add, however, that ‘agreement is still missing and it’s struggling to be found’ which is of interest to Liverpool, who are allegedly ‘ready to pay the €30m release clause in his contract’.

Liverpool signing Pellegrini makes perfect sense

I recently wrote about why he would fit Liverpool live a glove, citing his ability to score and assist as key reasons why he would be of interest to Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds are missing any kind of attacking intent in the middle of the park and this places too much pressure on the front three to win games and given their lack of clinical finishes this season, it would be wise to prepare for that trend to be continued.

Pellegrini scored 11 goals and assisted 9 but isn't just an attacking midfielder.

Like many Italian midfielders before him, he is blessed with terrific technique but is very good tactically and, as club captain for AS Roma, is also a leader.

At €30m (£25.8m), Liverpool will struggle to find a better player than Pellegrini and at just 24, he has the bulk of his career ahead of him which gives Klopp the opportunity to help him grow into a world-class player.

Transfermarkt values him at €41.9m (£36m) which highlights the bargain that Liverpool be getting by triggering his release clause.
