Sport, via Paisley Gates, have provided an update to say that Liverpool have called to make an enquiry about the 1.88m colossus as his contract expires in 18 months.

Liverpool are reportedly ready to agree lucrative personal terms with Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo, according to El Nacional.

The Catalan news outlet insists that the Uruguayan is grateful to Barca for the opportunity given to him to make the step up to La Liga from C.A Rentistas, however, talks have broken down over salary demands.

Interestingly, Liverpool are said to be willing to offer much more than Barcelona are and this could see the Reds take the 22-year-old from Camp Nou to Anfield where he is reportedly earning £35,000/week.

One of the main frustrations for Araujo and his camp is that Ousmane Dembele, a player who is clearly agitating for a move elsewhere, has been given far more attention than any other player at the club as far as contract negotiations are concerned.

The young defender is valued at €40million and, according to El Nacional, 'Liverpool have Araujo in the spotlight' as they Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain 'are just a few of those interested'.

The Reds are allegedly 'the strongest bet' and Jurgen Klopp has made a personal request to the club's board to sign Araujo.

To me, this seems unlikely given the strength in depth available to the Liverpool boss at centre back.

He might have struggled massively last season when Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip were absent but with their returns and the addition of Ibrahima Konate and the knowledge that Nathaniel Phillips is a brilliant fifth choice, there is no need for the club to sign a sixth centre-half.
