Report: Liverpool reach agreement over fee for midfielder - hopefully more signings to come for Reds
Liverpool have won the race to sign hot prospect Bobby Clark from Newcastle United but the Reds need to make a first-team signing soon.
According to the Chronicle Live, Liverpool have reached an agreement with the Magpies over a fee for the 16-year-old.
They 'hope to confirm the deal in due course' for the son of Lee Clark, who made 195 appearances for Newcastle.
While the Chronicle reports that players of Clark's age typically 'see out a scholarship until the age of 17 before penning a professional contract', Liverpool are so impressed by the teenager they have made sure to get him at Kirkby as soon as possible.
While it's great to see that Liverpool are ensuring the Academy remains well-stocked with young talent, it is easy to understand why fans are increasingly frustrated.
The club's Premier League rivals are adding top tier talent this summer, with Chelsea now set to add Romelu Lukaku to their starting XI after Jack Grealish's £100million move to Manchester City.
Meanwhile, Manchester United have already recruited Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane and could further reinforce before the end of the summer.
Liverpool, on the other hand, have only added Konate to their ranks and while the Frenchman's signature was absolutely vital, not adding to his arrival could make the Reds susceptible to injury this season.
As things stand, Jurgen Klopp is already set to lose Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane during the AFCON which means his famed front three will be two-thirds light.
Elsewhere, Naby Keita, who has been my personal pick is likely to be selected by Guinea as well and even if he doesn't get injured before then, that means he will be missing at the turn of the year as well.
So before Liverpool make any signings, they will be losing two world-class players and a player that has the potential to be in that bracket on his day.
Reaching an agreement with Newcastle United over a fee for Bobby Clark is fantastic news for the future of Liverpool Football Club but supporters can be excused for not being overly excited about that right now.
The Reds need a new midfielder and a new forward and have three weeks to do so and while we've seen Jurgen Klopp work miracles in the past, it would be so much simpler to give him the tools he needs to get the job done.
