Liverpool "put marker down" ahead new season - City not going to have it all their own way

Liverpool kicked off their 2022/23 season with a win in the Community Shield against bitter rivals Manchester City.

The 3-1 victory at the King Power Stadium saw the Reds start the season on a high in a lively game.

Next up is the start of the Premier League and Jurgen Klopp's men head into the season with some momentum when they face Fulham this week.

In a game where a loss isn't detrimental to a side - have Liverpool still managed to set done a marker ahead of the season? Some pundits believe so.

Liverpool set down marker for the season

"It's one of these games where sometimes, I don't know, I can't fully get into it because effectively it's not 100% full-on but in terms of a marker - I think Liverpool have certainly put down a marker."

"It's difficult to take a lot from it other than if you thought Manchester City were going to have it all their own way this season then you've got that wrong totally."

"He looks lively!" McCoist claimed about Nunez. "He's got good movement and I thought the third goal was a brilliant goal to tell you the truth.

Elliot wants 'flying start' at Fulham

Harvey Elliot featured in both the Community Shield as well as the friendly against French side RC Strasbourg Alsace on Sunday.

Elliot, 19, is set to be a major player having impressed during pre-season as well as last season before his ankle injury; he wants Liverpool to hit the ground running on the opening weekend of the PL.

“Hopefully we can just keep adding to it this season, which is our aim. Our focus now is on Fulham. We have a week to build up to it and hopefully we can start off with a flyer.”

To top it off with a win proved and showed what our performance was like. It’s all credit to the boys who played a part and just as a team we stuck together throughout pre-season.
