Liverpool put loan move "on hold" as Jurgen Klopp wants to keep 19-year-old due to injuries in Reds' squad

Liverpool have put their decision to let Tyler Morton leave on loan "on hold" as Jurgen Klopp weighs up his options due to injuries within the squad.

Diogo Jota is a doubt to start the new Premier League season but in midfield, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has already suffered his first injury of the 2022/23 campaign.

The Englishman has been really unlucky with his injuries in his career and Klopp already seems to be doubting whether or not the former Arsenal and Southampton star will be able to play regularly enough.

Tyler Morton (19) was set to leave for Blackburn Rovers but has seen that move put on hold.

This whole summer, fans and pundits have debated whether or not Liverpool need to add to their ranks in central midfield with a move to sign Aurelien Tchouameni falling through early in the window.

Julian Ward then signed Darwin Nunez for a fee that could reach £85M and it appears any budget to sign a top-quality midfielder has disappeared as a result.

Klopp battled up until the New Year with the likes of Harvey Elliott, Naby Keita and Thiago suffering injuries while Curtis Jones was absent for extended periods with issues of his own.

Covid-19 and suspensions also played their part in limiting the manager's options.

Liverpool are second favourites to win the league title behind Manchester City but they will need as much luck as possible to beat them to it.

Morton is a fantastic young player and he's shown he can come into the side and help out but if Klopp is seriously worried about his midfield options, it's not too late to sign a new midfielder.

The major issue with keeping the teenager this season is that it will limit his development as he won't get the regular playing time a star his age needs.
