Liverpool planning offer to complete signing and learn £51M will seal fourth Julian Ward signing

Liverpool's transfer reports claim that a move for Sporting's Matheus Nunes is growing ever more likely.

Nunes, 23, has starred for Sporting in recent seasons and has broken into the Portuguese international set-up as well.

With Liverpool potentially selling Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to West Ham on a cut-price deal, rumours have intensified around the possible signing of Nunes.

It could open the door for a move for the Portuguese midfielder but Liverpool will have to pay a higher fee if they want their man.

Latest reports on Nunes

Today's news from Portugal reveals that Liverpool will have to pay up to £51m for Nunes - with Sporting raising the fee from the initial £43m.

The Portuguese news outlet O Jogo has claimed that with the interest from the Premier League growing, manager Ruben Amorim has been trying to convince Nunes to stay for one more season.

The 37-year-old coach has reportedly said if he stays he will raise his market value as he will be able to play in the Champions League and the World Cup.

Whilst that would translate to a higher wage packet for the player, it would also mean the club would get a bigger fee for his sale - giving them more funds to scout out a potential replacement.

The situation has changed in recent weeks - a fee of around £43M was apparently enough to secure the signing of Nunes, but that seems to have changed now.

It is revealed that the situation will only change now if a club meets the release clause of 60 million euros (£51million).

Liverpool have been linked with a move for a midfielder this summer, amid worries over the depth of their midfield.

Nunes would provide quality and would potentially be a regular starter for Klopp if signed, but it's likely they will need to sell a midfielder before bringing one in.

Recent reports have stated that Liverpool will make an opening offer for Nunes.
