Liverpool plan to unveil new €63m signing before pre-season starts with media day pencilled in

French defender Ibrahima Konate was announced in May as Liverpool's first signing of the summer but he is yet to appear in the club's kit.

The 22-year-old was unable to travel to Merseyside for his first media day as a Liverpool player due to a combination of COVID restrictions and international obligations.

Liverpool officially announced that they had reached an agreement with RB Leipzig for Konate on the 28th of May and three days later he was in action for France against the Netherlands in the U21 European Championships.

His move to Liverpool is worth a combined total of €63million (£54.2m) after the transfer fee and wages are factored in.

Unfortunately, he and his compatriots were eliminated thanks to a brace from Myron Boadu but the Liverpool defender is now in England.

Anfield Central sources close to Liverpool's media team have told that a media day has been pencilled in and Konate will soon have his first pictures taken in the famous Red jersey.

The aim is to officially unveil him as the club's first signing of the summer before pre-season starts so that there aren't any unnecessary distractions.

Peter Krawietz has already stressed how important it is that he gets the full advantage of being at the Kirkby from day one to maximise his chances of hitting the ground running.

He told the club's website: “It's always a massive advantage if you can join in the full pre-season, especially for a new player.

“Giving him enough time to adapt, to learn, to know the coaching staff and the manager, to give him time to adapt to the whole process of the pre-season and tactically to learn about our style of play [is important].”
