Liverpool have opened talks to sign striker - Jurgen Klopp personally pushing for late move

Liverpool have opened talks over signing Femi Azeez from Reading, according to Caught Offside, with Jurgen Klopp pushing for his arrival.

The 2021 summer transfer window has been a disappointment so far and only relatively speaking.

Comparison is the thief of joy and it's unfortunate for Ibrahima Konate that the spotlight has been stolen from his move to the club's lack of further activity.

FSG needed to sign a midfielder and a centre-forward for the Reds while moving on the likes of Divock Origi and Loris Karius and with just a few days left, both players are still at the club and no further signings have been made.

Now, Caught Offside's Jamie Wilkinson reports that Liverpool "have opened talks over the signing of Reading’s Femi Azeez" and he goes on to say that "Jurgen Klopp [is] thought to be pushing for Azeez’s arrival at Anfield."

An agreement is not yet in place but talks are ongoing and the 20-year-old striker could earn £75,000/week if he swaps Reading for Liverpool late in the transfer window.

While supporters are keen to see signings made, I'm sure most fans want to see proven quality arrive and while fans are realistic and are not expecting Erling Haaland or Kylian Mbappe to join, a signing in the mould of Diogo Jota is not too much to ask.

It's been a frustrating transfer window because there have been several good options for Liverpool to sign a striker with the best being Patson Daka and Donyell Malen but both opportunities were passed on.

Jota has started the season very well and the hope is that he and Firmino can push each other onto greater heights but as we saw last season, an injury to Jota (or Mane and Salah) could derail Liverpool's attack.

The main storyline last season was the defensive injury crisis - and rightly so as Klopp had to field 19 different centre-back pairings - but not enough has been said about how poor the Reds were in attack.

The opening two games have been overwhelmingly positive but it's clear that last season (when compared to the glory of the title win the season before) has left fans insecure.
