On Tuesday, a report from France named Liverpool as Aurelien Tchouameni’s latest suitor and now, Dominic King has confirmed the interest.

This season, Jurgen Klopp has battled to keep his best midfielders fit at times with Naby Keita and Thiago both suffering from a few injuries each.

Together, along with Fabinho, they have recently combined to form a brilliant midfield trio that supporters have nicknamed ‘NFT’.

Fabinho

Jordan Henderson has dovetailed with Keita and Thiago but Liverpool don’t have any depth or competition in the holding midfield role and it places incredible strain on Fabinho.

The Brazilian is so important to the way Liverpool play but an injury to him could wreck everything the Reds have been working towards.

So when Foot Mercato broke news on Tuesday that Liverpool are attempting to sign Aurelien Tchouameni ahead of Real Madrid, fans on social media got very excited and for good reason.

The Frenchman is one of the best young midfielders in Europe and at 22, he would fit perfectly the FSG transfer model.

Aurelien Tchouameni

Ibrahima Konate provides the blueprint for success at Liverpool for Tchouameni

His age and profile remind me a lot of Ibrahima Konate in fact.

Also 22, the former RB Leipzig star was regarded as one of the best in his age group and tipped for future greatness.

He hasn’t played huge volumes of football this season but when he has played, Ibou has impressed hugely and in a role that requires incredible positional awareness due to Liverpool’s high line, he has adjusted tremendously.

Tchouameni, if he were to sign for the Reds, would also need a similar period of adjustment to become a success on Merseyside even if he is capable of walking into most teams on the planet.

Aurelien Tchouameni

Fabinho’s role in the Liverpool team is one of the most important and the slightest mistake can leave the Reds horribly exposed as was the case against Manchester City at the Etihad when the Brazilian (and Jordan Henderson) switched off for a split second, allowing Bernardo Silva to take a quick free-quick which led to Kevin De Bruyne’s early opener.

Tchouameni would need time to adjust to the tactical demands that would be placed on him by Jurgen Klopp but the €50million-valued midfielder wouldn’t be out of place among the world-class players at Kirkby.

Foot Mercato reported on Tuesday that “Jurgen Klopp loves Aurelien Tchouameni!”

I think the Nike athlete would be an incredible addition to the Reds’ engine room.

Dominic King verifies Liverpool’s interest in Aurelien Tchouameni

Following the breaking news on Tuesday, the Daily Mail’s Dominic King verified the transfer update, reporting that Real Madrid are favourites but Liverpool are certainly interested.

He tweeted: “Lots of stuff around about Liverpool and Aurelien Tchouameni.

“No question he is a player they are looking at but other clubs in frame, too, most notably Real Madrid, who are favourites.

“Liverpool, however, most definitely looking for a midfielder with his qualities.”
