From Portugal: Liverpool make “first approach” to sign electric goalscorer – CL club demanding €70million

Liverpool have made their ‘first approach’ to sign Luis Diaz from Porto bit will reportedly need to pay €70million to secure his signature.

He might have 10 goals in all competitions this season as well as an assist but worried fans have spoken at great length about Sadio Mane and his 9-game goalless streak which came to an end against Chelsea at the weekend.

While he had some positive moments in that barren run, his touch was heavy, he looked short on ideas and struggled to beat his man 1v1. He became more of a hindrance in attack than an outlet.

Yet, we all know how dangerous he can really be. The Senegal international is one of the best forwards in the world but playing without competition and with the guarantee of starting every match is toxic and not conducive to getting the best out of a player.

He needs competition and Porto’s Luis Diaz would be the perfect fit.

Porto want €70million to let Diaz go after Reds make ‘first approach’

Liverpool have made their first approach to Porto to sign Luis Diaz but it’s unclear whether or not they want to sign him this month to cope with the selection crisis or in the summer.

 Luis Diaz

If the Reds really have only made their first contact with the Portuguese club now, several days into the January transfer window, then it would be my opinion that this will be a tricky deal to pull off before the end of the month.

Porto reportedly want €70million (£58.4m) for Diaz and while I strongly believe that the Reds can afford that especially after spending so little in recent windows, negotiations over fees that large can take several weeks.

The Reds do not have that kind of time with the clock ticking on the winter transfer window.

Luis Diaz

Diaz is the ideal Klopp signing and he ticks all of FSG’s boxes as well

The Colombian is fast, can press high up the pitch, is a fantastic ball carrier but also has the goals and assists to match from wide areas which are so important to Liverpool’s system.

In 24 games in all competitions this season, Diaz has 14 goals and 5 assists but I have some concerns that he only scores and creates at that rate because he’s playing in the weaker Liga Nos but if Liverpool really are interested, their research and data will indicate that he’s not just stat-padding in Portugal.
