Liverpool lose heavily in pre-season opener – record signing misses sitter!

Liverpool opened their pre-season tour with a crushing foul nil defeat to Manchester United in Bangkok.

Goals from Jadon Sancho, Anthony Martial, Fred and Facundo Pellistri swept the Reds aside in a nightmare start to their season.

Despite some good performances from Liverpool’s younger talents, they found themselves down 3-0 with just over half an hour played.

A defeat made worse by Darwin Nunez’s guilt edge miss from 10 yards out as he failed to open his Liverpool account.

United fielded a strong side against Liverpool inexperienced line-up and they made their advantage count in the first half hour scoring three goals.

Jadon Sancho fired in the opener from inside the box following a poor header before Fred’s brilliant chip over Alisson doubled their lead.

Anthony Martial’s breakaway and cool finish made it three before Pellistri and Amad Diallo combined for Pellistri to make it four 13 minutes from time.

Liverpool had chances through Luis Diaz who missed two great opportunities whilst Carvalho hit the post on debut.

Darwin Nunez may have made his debut for Liverpool coming off the bench but £85m signing had a moment to forget.

The 23-year-old looked set to score his first Liverpool goal when Mohamed Salah’s strike rebounded off the post and into his path but the Uruguayan could only fire over to add to Liverpool’s misery.

The young contingent of Harvey Elliot, Fabio Carvalho, Isaac Mabaya and Luke Chambers had excited fans in their half an hour stint granted by Jurgen Klopp.

Despite conceding three goals, Mabaya and Chambers excited Liverpool fans as their young talents showed a glimpse into the future.

Carvalho and Elliot combined well and looked sharp and fans can take positives from their play.

However, Klopp played with three different line-ups throughout this game – substituting 10 players on and off at the 30th and 60th minute marks.
