Liverpool want the best U21 player in Europe; can use £15m man-mountain to negotiate deal

TV I journalist Bruno Andrade claims Liverpool are considering a swoop for Fabio Vieira after he was named EUROs U21 Player of the Tournament.

Andrade doesn't provide any more information but if the Reds are genuinely interested in signing Vieira, they can use Marko Grujic (6ft3) to their advantage as the Liga Nos side wants to sign the Serbian this summer.

As per Sport Witness: "Correio da Manhã comes up with a simple and straightforward story. They say Liverpool currently demand €14m for Grujic’s sale, and the Portuguese club doesn’t want to spend over €10m."

James Pearce claims the Reds actually want £15m for the former Red Star man but if they are interested in signing Vieira, they could use Porto's desire to keep Grujic following his loan spell to get the Portuguese U21 midfielder.

Vieira was brilliant for his country in their run to the U21 European Champions final and was named Player of the Tournament by UEFA's team of technical observers in spite of the fact that Germany beat them in the final, making him the best U21 player in Europe right now.

Getting a work permit for the 21-year-old would be quite straightforward as he played 31 times for Porto this season but as far as Anfield Central sources are informed, he's not a serious midfield target.

At least not for this summer. A club like Liverpool is constantly evaluating the market and assessing which young players suit them - some take the leap to join them at a young age but most only get their chance at around 23/34.

Liverpool are looking for a player that can come in and make an immediate impact but that also has the potential to develop into a world-class operator much like how Sadio Mane did following his move from Southampton.

Ryan Gravenberch is a player of serious interest to Liverpool but as we reported exclusively on Tuesday evening, talks will be opened with his agent, Mino Raiola, following the EUROs but Ajax will not sell him this summer.

Any deal that is agreed between the two clubs will be for the summer of 2022, with our source speaking to the player's father to get confirmation that he will be remaining at the Amsterdam Arena ahead of next season.

One player that is heavily linked with Liverpool is Youri Tielemans but the Belgian will cost the Reds a fortune.
