Liverpool in 'preliminary talks' over selling star to Premier League side - could make way for new signing

Liverpool are in preliminary talks to sell Divock Origi to West Ham this summer and his exit could be what the Reds need to make a new signing.

The Belgian is by no means a bad player but a lack of regular football has seen his standing at Liverpool deteriorate since the heights of the 2018/19 season.

Liverpool, according to Football Insider, want just £15million to let the former Lille star leave and if Origi leaves, the Reds could finally add to their squad.

They claim: "A recruitment source has told Football Insider that West Ham head the clubs working on a cut-price raid for Origi."

The Belgian is still only 26 and still has the potential to be a very good Premier League forward and West Ham could offer him the chance to redeem himself.

Liverpool need to add a new midfielder and a new striker to their squad to truly feel comfortable going head to head with the likes of Chelsea and the Manchester clubs

They, however, have the maximum of 17 non-homegrown players in their squad.

In order to sign a player that was not born in the UK, Liverpool need to sell the likes of Origi or Xherdan Shaqiri soon.

Liverpool have three weeks to sell the two players and get their business done otherwise it will be the first time that Jurgen Klopp will go into a season with the verdict from the outside being that his transfers have been unsuccessful.

Of course, the German and Michael Edwards know a lot more than anyone on the outside does and as I wrote last week, it really doesn't seem as though he shares the fanbase's frustration of a perceived lack of transfer activity.

If Liverpool make no more signings and, by the end of the 2021/22 season Liverpool have won silverware, it will once again prove that the Merseysiders don't operate the same as the rest.
