Liverpool are in talks with Blackburn Rovers to end Ben Davies' ill-fated move to Anfield just two years after his arrival.

The former Preston defender was signed at the height of Liverpool's defensive injury crisis during the 2020/21 season.

In what can be described as a disaster move, Davies has never made an appearance for the Reds and spent last season on loan at Sheffield United.

However, Liverpool are close to ending their failed transfer experiment with Blackburn leading the way for his signature.

Davies, 26, has been left out of Liverpool's pre-season tour of Asia with a view to sealing a move away from Anfield.

Julian Ward has been a busy sporting director so far this summer acquiring the services of Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsey as well as overseeing new deals for Mohamed Salah and Joe Gomez.

He's also helped to raise over £65M back in sales and cut wages with Sadio Mane, Neco Williams, Marko Grujic, Divock Orsoigi and Takumi Minamino all leaving the club.

Davies will help to free up squad space and raise some funds with the defender reportedly on a whopping £240k-a-month; costing the club in excess of £5M (wages & transfer fee) for a total of zero minutes played.

It is thought the Ewood Park club are willing to pay his wages, as well as a loan fee, during the time he might spend with Jon Dahl Tomasson’s side.

However, as per The Lancashire Telegraph, this is not something Rovers have typically done with temporary signings.

It is also worth noting that Rovers were apparently willing to back new head coach Jon Dahl Tomasson financially

But they are currently facing competition from Stoke and Middlesborough for Davies.
