Fabrizio: Contact "ongoing" for elite target "more than happy to join Liverpool"- deal could be completed this week

Fabrizio Romano reports that contact is ongoing as Liverpool try to sign Calvin Ramsay from Aberdeen.

The 18-year-old is an "elite" talent, Dons chairman Dave Cormack said, and he could be the perfect cover for Trent Alexander-Arnold.

While Sadio Mane will, in all likelihood, join Bayern Munich this summer, Liverpool are not letting that harm their squad and are trying to replace him with Darwin Nunez.

Meanwhile, there are also plans to sign a new midfielder despite Aurelien Tchouameni choosing to join Real Madrid instead of the Reds.

He reports: "Contacts are still ongoing between Liverpool and Calvin Ramsay's camp.

"He's considered an opportunity, still waiting to progress in talks with Aberdeen.

"Ramsay would be more than happy to join Liverpool, up to the clubs."

The Times reports that Liverpool “will look to tie up the transfer” this week.

It would be ideal if he was signed before pre-season starts so that he has the best chance of settling in by getting a full pre-season programme in under his belt.

Liverpool's pre-season regimen is extremely demanding but it sets the squad up well to cope with the intense nature of Jurgen Klopp's style of play.

Coming in to cover Trent is just part of the role that Ramsay will hopefully provide as he will also likely be a key part of Klopp's approach to the domestic cups.

Fringe players get the bulk of their game time in the Carabao and FA Cups as we saw this season with Takumi Minamino and Caoimhín Kelleher starring.

Adding Ramsay to the side will mean that there will be further room for rotation as Klopp won't need to play anyone out of position to give Trent a rest.

If the 18-year-old is as talented as the rave reviews from Scotland suggest, he will be pushing Alexander-Arnold very hard in the Premier League and Champions League as well.
