Liverpool are expected to land Calvin Ramsay from Aberdeen this summer, according to Phil Hay, ahead of Leeds United.

The 18-year-old has produced many eye-catching displays this season and has emerged as Liverpool's top target to provide Trent Alexander-Arnold with cover and competition.

According to Phil Hay, who is the Athletic's Leeds United correspondent, the Whites "know there is a high likelihood of Ramsay opting for Anfield over Elland Road."

Whether or not Ramsay joins Liverpool may come down to a few different reasons but the biggest factor in his decision making is likely over game time.

Leeds can make Ramsay a starter as they fight to seal a third season in the Premier League by avoiding relegation again in the 2022/23 season.

But Liverpool can offer Ramsay a shot at winning silverware while also not facing the risk of relegation which can halt a player's development massively.

At Anfield, Ramsay would be able to learn from the best attacking fullback in the world. Trent Alexander-Arnold scored just 2 goals this season but assisted an astonishing 19 from fullback.

He's unlikely to be dropped in major games for the likes of Calvin Ramsay but the Scottish fullback will provide Jurgen Klopp with the option of resting Trent while the added competition will spark even more improvement from the Scouser.

Former Aberdeen manager, Stephen Glass, says the 18-year-old is a "top, top player" while Brian Rice says the youngster has a "great delivery".

Klopp has shown his expert ability to improve young players over the years and hopefully, it will be more of the same if Ramsay joins Liverpool.

The Reds may have suffered Premier League and Champions League heartbreak this season but they also won the FA Cup and the League Cup.

Ramsay can be a part of the hunt for silverware next season if he joins and with Klopp known for giving game time to squad players in the domestic cups, that could be Ramsay's time to shine.

Kostas Tsimikas got his lucky break in the Premier League on the left flank so if there is an injury to Trent (touch wood so it doesn't happen), Ramsay would need to be ready to step in.
