Opinion: 'Real Madrid agreement' means LFC have free run at €398,000/week sensation
Michael Mongie believes that Real Madrid's agreement with Erling Haaland means Liverpool will have a free run at Kylian Mbappe ahead of the 2022 window.
If Real Madrid sign Haaland next summer, it's hugely unlikely they will also sign Mbappe and this gives Liverpool a free run at the Frenchman.
Quotes from Melissa Reddy to Sport1 suggest that Liverpool have been saving funds so that they will be ready to pounce when they feel the time is right. They've passed up on signing Jadon Sancho but could be waiting to pounce on Kylian Mbappe.
Mbappe is the most exciting talent in the world and has already achieved so much at such a young age including winning the FIFA World Cup with France and there's no doubt that he'd be a huge success at Liverpool.
This season, he scored 42 goals and got 11 assists for PSG, including 8 goals and 3 assists in the Champions League en route to the sem-finals where they were knocked out by Manchester City.
With just 12 months and 7 days remaining on his PSG contract, Mbappe will soon be free to talk to interested clubs although I'm sure the likes of Liverpool have already made contact with his agent Mino Raiola.
While he will be able to join the club for free if he continues running his contract down, he will still demand massive wages which will still be a huge barrier in bringing him to Anfield next summer.
Liverpool's wage structure is delicately poised and while Jurgen Klopp will have very few complaints about his squad's harmony, he might do if he agrees to pay Kylian Mbappe nearly double what Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk earn.
If the Merseysiders do indeed sign Mbappe, it will be fascinating to see how it comes about.
