Report: Liverpool are 'closing in' on signing of the next Kevin De Bruyne - Michael Edwards hard at work on a deal

Liverpool are reportedly hard at work to sign the next Kevin De Bruyne in attacking midfielder Kacper Kozlowski, who the Mirror claims is a top target for the Reds.

The 18-year-old plays for Pognon Szczecin and has already played for the Poland national team five times, highlighting his bright future and why he is a target for Liverpool Football Club.

Chris Hatherall says the midfielder is compared to Kevin De Bruyne and if the Reds are able to sign the next KDB, they could avoid having to sign a top-class attacking midfielder down the line.

Of course, it's unclear if he will be able to fulfil his potential but Liverpool have rarely got any transfers wrong with Michael Edwards and Jurgen Klopp combining to build this terrific side.

The Mirror reports that Liverpool are "working on a deal" to recruit Kozlowski but will likely need to wait until the summer to sign him as Szczecin don't want to let him leave in January.

If he does indeed have the potential to emulate Kevin De Bruyne's rise to superstardom, it would be great for Liverpool to sign him but the Reds are more in need of a no.8 that can help the Reds control the tempo of games and help protect the back four.

Georginio Wijnaldum's departure this summer has left Liverpool short in the middle of the park and an injury to Thiago Alcantara has stolen the Reds' best midfield orchestrator as there isn't another player at the club that can dictate the flow of the game like the Spaniard can.

I still want to see someone like Yves Bissouma or Youri Tieliemans arrive in the summer although the latter has been guilty in the past of matching the tempo of the game instead of dictating it.

I said it before the window closed and I'll say it again now: not signing a midfielder this summer was a major error from Liverpool and hopefully, it doesn't prove costly.

If Jurgen Klopp feels as though he doesn't have the numbers required in midfield, he should strongly consider moving to sign a new no.8 when the winter window opens in January.
