Liverpool fans mock Manchester City signing for missing sitter in training

Liverpool fans have taken to social media to hit back at rivals Manchester City after Erling Haaland was seen missing an absolute sitter in training.

Tensions have been high between rival fans as they prepare for the start of a new Premier League season and a whole new rivalry.

Fans have been warming up by criticising anything and everything from pre-season and that's involved Liverpool's Darwin Nunez taking the brunt of the jokes.

However, Merseyside fans have hit back after footage of Haaland hit the internet - and it's safe to say they didn't hold back.

Liverpool fans hit back on social media:

Liverpool fans have hit back with footage of Haaland missing from a few yards out in training.

It shows a quick flash of Haaland in training and then his stabbed effort towards a seemingly open goal before a keeper somehow scrambles it away.

The war of words will run all season long between fans with this being an early example of what to expect.

Haaland joined from Borussia Dortmund this summer in a deal worth £51m but will rise up to £85.5m in total when all the add-ons and agent fees have been completed.

Nunez unfair criticism

Nunez was outed on social media by rival fans for his two poor performances against Manchester United and Crystal Palace as part of Liverpool's tour of Asia.

Jurgen Klopp defended his forward when speaking at a press conference after those matches: “It's kind of a game or a joke for some people to pick out some situations where a player's not doing well.

"That's only a game from [fans of] other clubs, which is normal. Our fans probably do [the same] with signings of Manchester United. We cannot take this seriously.”

Nunez missed a glorious chance to open his Liverpool account against United but fired his shot over when a mostly open goal awaited him.

He then failed to inspire against Palace in what was only his second half an hour performance for the club.

Fans were quick to out the £85M signing as a 'flop' and a 'waste of money' despite it being a friendly game that will have absolutely no saying on whether the Uruguayan will be a success or not.
